Easter: FRSC Begins Patrol, Yakowa Sends Message Of Peace

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) said on Thursday in Abuja that its? officers have been deployed to various parts of the country for effective traffic management and rescue operation during Easter celebration.

A statement signed by Mr Nseobong Akpabio, the Commission’s Public Education Officer, said a five-day intensive nationwide patrol of the highways would also begin on Friday.

It said that during the exercise, traffic rules would be strictly enforced and warned that all infractions would be dealt with.

The release stated that with the cooperation of motorists, road accidents would be avoided and urged the motorists to report to the commission’s emergency ambulance centres across the country in the events of accidents.

It stated that the emergency ambulance centres could be reached on telephone number 122 or 070022553772 for prompt response.

In a related development, Gov. Patrick Yakowa of Kaduna State has called on Christians to be tolerant and forgiving in the interest of the nation’s development.

In an Easter message to the people of the state on Thursday, Yakowa reminded all Christians on the need to imbibe the spirit of tolerance and forgiveness during and after Easter.

Signed by Mr Reuben Buhari, the Senior Special Assistant (Media) to the governor, the message quoted Yakowa as saying: “Our administration is committed to building bridges of understanding across the various interest groups in the state.

“The commitment to national development which this administration stands for can only be achieved through the spirit of forgiveness, tolerance and peace which the season stands for. ’’

Yakowa urged the people to collaborate with the Peace and Reconciliation Committee which was working to reconcile various interest groups in the state.

He assured the public that his administration was working tirelessly to ensure peace and security in the state.

Meanwhile, few days to Easter, the prices of soup ingredients have risen in Osogbo, according to a market survey conducted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.

Mrs Kafayat Adelani, who sells tomatoes at the Sabo Market, said the price of a basket of tomatoes, which was sold for N3,700 before Easter, has risen to N5,000 while a bag of pepper rose from N7,000 to N17,000.

Malam Abdullahi Salmon, another trader at Igbonna Market, said the prices of soup ingredients rose due to the Easter season.

He said the price hike was not peculiar to soup ingredients, noting that the prices of other essential commodities had also increased in all the markets in the metropolis.

Meanwhile, Mrs Rachael Dickson, the wife of Bayelsa Governor, said she would celebrate the Easter with widows and the aged in the state.

Dickson announced this when she distributed gift items to widows and the elderly from the eight Local Government Areas of the state at Government House, Yenagoa on Thursday.

The governor’s wife said the present administration in the state would continue to give adequate attention to widows and the aged to give them a sense of belonging.

She noted that the Easter was centered on Christ’s love for humanity and urged the people of the state to love one another.

Responding, the coordinator of the widows, Mrs Magi Promise and a representative of the aged, Chief Trenier Otia, commended the governor’s wife for the gesture.
