The Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu on Thursday restated Federal Government’s increased commitment towards enhanced healthcare delivery in the country.
Chukwu made this known in Abuja at the 67th meeting of the Association of Chief Executives of Federal Tertiary Hospitals.
He said government was doing all in its power to ensure that Nigerians have access to qualitative healthcare services.
“In the last one year, some hospitals have done the nation proud in service delivery; we are committed to doing more so that people live healthy lives.”
Speaking on the theme “Meeting the Challenges in Primary Healthcare”, Chukwu emphasised the need for the chief executives to do all in their capacity to give the best.
The minister said that the issue of medical treatment abroad would be a thing of the past because government was upgrading four tertiary hospitals.
“Most Nigerians don’t know that most ailments that they go abroad to treat can be treated here, the issue also has to do with proper awareness and for the hospitals to know that they should understand the referral system.”
Chukwu spoke on the importance of discipline and due process in all dealings in the hospitals, stressing that standard practices would not be compromised.
The Minister of State for Health, Dr Muhammed Pate, commended the chief executives on service delivery in some hospitals, stressing that they should put in more efforts to enhance the living standards of Nigerians.
“The reason why we are in business is because of the people, we must do more to ensure that we get the best out of our healthcare system. ”
He urged them to be transparent in their dealings, stressing that the Freedom of Information Law had made it possible for them to be more accountable to Nigerians.
The association, coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Health, is to share ideas periodically? for improved healthcare delivery in the country.?
