A 29-year-old businessman was on Thursday arraigned before an Ebute Meta Magistrates' Court, charged with allegedly setting a woman on fire.
The prosecutor, Insp. Paul Onime, told the court that the defendant, Ikechukwu Godwin, on Jan. 22 poured petrol on one Rosemary Oluseye and set her on fire, following a clash over refuse disposal.
“The defendant was burning refuse near the woman's shop– which she did not like– and eventually resulted to a fight.
“The angry defendant poured petrol on the complainant’s body, which attracted the fire to her chest, back and arm,” Onime said.
The prosecutor said that both the complainant and the defendant were residents of No. 11 Abati St., Akowonjo, Egbeda.
He said that the alleged offence contravened Section 228 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate Helen Omisore granted the accused N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to May 5 for hearing. (NAN)
