Persons suspected to be armed robbers yesterday attacked and killed the director of account and finance with federal medical centre (FMC) Katsina, Alhaji Kabir Yakubu, and injured both his son and security guard.
The suspected robbers also pumped bullets on police patrol vehicle after what could pass for an exchange of gun fire between them and the police.
It was gathered that the suspected robbers numbering nine, stormed the residence of the deceased in Tudun Matawalle area, an outskirt of Katsina municipal around 3am and gunned down the late director when they gained entrance to his residence.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that the deceased? shot his gun to ward off the robbers but “the robbers who retreated afterwards, hid themselves and shot him on the neck and on fore head.” The director was said to have died on the spot.
Narrating the incident to our correspondent, an eyewitness, Baba Ado who sustained injuries on his hand said, “they ordered me to take them to his room and they ransacked everything in the room before leaving with handsets, monies and jewelleries.”
According to the eyewitness, the dare devil robbers also went away with some yet to be specified documents after searching the deceased’s vehicle.
Residents of the area said they heard sporadic gunshots that lasted for over thirty minutes as the robbers were said to have shot randomly in the air, obviously to scare people away.
It was also gathered that the robbers ran into police men on patrol and there was an exchange of gun battle between them however, none of the robbers was killed.
