The Zamfara Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Akila Gwary, has urged officers and men of the command to eschew corruption and build public trust in the force.
Gwary made the appeal in Gusau on Thursday at the opening of a two-day conference for Police Imams under Zone 10 of the force.
The zone comprises Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara state police commands.
Represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Saidu Madawaki, the commissioner said Islamic teachings, particularly honesty and discipline, could well be injected into Police operations for effective service.
He said the police would collaborate with the Hisbah Commission in the state to rid the area of criminals and ensure adequate security of lives and property.
In a paper delivered at the conference, the chief Imam of Samuru Gusau Jummat Mosque, Sheikh Saidu Maikwano said corruption was the bane of effective policing in the country.
Maikwano advised Policemen to make “the fear of God their watchword and consider their job a public trust”.
