There was pandemonium at the premises of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital on Friday as fire engulfed nurses' room on the second floor of the BT Paediatrics Complex.
The fire, which lasted only few minutes, recorded no casualties, but patients were evacuated from the building by the authorities.
The Chief Medical Officer, Prof. Wale Oke, said that the patients would be returned to the building after the premises were cleaned.
“We do not know the cause of the fire, but hopefully, the forensic people will tell us what happened. It is likely to be an electrical problem,” he said.
A fire fighter in Alausa Fire Station, Mr Mustaphis Ajani, said the fire lasted just few minutes, but the cause was unknown.
“The fortunate thing is that the fire was only confined to a room and did not spread to other rooms. There was no casualty as it destroyed beddings and other equipment in the room,” he said.
