Barely 24 hours after an armed gang sacked a police station in Amichi, Nnewi South LGA, freeing detained suspects and making away with 14 AK 47 riffles, another gang has killed three police officers in Ukpor police station in the same Nnewi axis.
The robbers who were said to have operated in a Toyota Hiace bus popularly known as “Hummer bus” and a Hilux Jeep stormed the Ukpor police station, shooting sporadically and hitting three mobile police officers in the process.
The victims were among the newly posted officers sent to the station three weeks ago, and they included: Mohammed Musa, Ismaila Danjuma and another yet-to- be-identified officer.
LEADERSHIP gathered that obviously unprepared officers at the police station ran for cover while the men struck, but luck ran out on the three who could not escape on time and were caught in the hail of fire.
The bodies of the killed police officers were later deposited at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital morgue.
As at the time of filling this report, it was still unclear if the assailants were actually robbers because a source said nothing was stolen from the police station. ASP Emeka Chukwuemeka, the Police Public Relations Officer of Anambra State Police Command would however not pick his calls as his phones rang endlessly.
