Delta State House of Assembly has called on Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan to direct the ministry of works and other relevant agencies to urgently put machinery in motion to rehabilitate the Mosogar/Sapele Germon Bridge.
The motion was brought under matters of urgent public importance by the Majority Leader, representing Sapele Constituency, Hon. Monday Igbuya and seconded by Hon. (Mrs.) Irene Imilar representing Warri North constituency.
Arguing the motion, Igbuya said the age-long bridge which connects Sapele and Ethiope West Local Government Area is gradually caving in and now constitutes a danger to motorists because of its numerous potholes.
While describing the bridge as a gateway for the economic activities of the people of Sapele and Ethiope West council areas, Igbuya implored the House to support the motion as the bridge is used by all Deltans.
The Majority Whip representing Ethiope – West constituency, Hon.(Barr.) John Nani, who described the bridge as old as Western region inherited by the then Midwestern Region, Bendel and today Delta needs government rehabilitation and continuous maintenance in order to keep economic activities of the linking local government areas afloat.
Lawmakers who supported the argument of the sponsor of the motion including Irene Imilar, Johnson Erijo, Daniel Mayuku, Julius Okpoko,Tim Owhefere and Essien Okiemute, noted that the bridge in question which is on a trunk “A” federal road concerns the welfare and safety of Deltans who requires that the state government takes over its maintenance so as not to endanger the lives of Deltans.
