The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is seeking the cooperation of regional bodies to counter narcotic operations in the African continent.
This is coming as the anti drug body said it has discovered a new drug route from Tanzania to Nigeria, even as it made its first arrest of? suspected drug traffickers who ingested liquid cocaine poured into male condoms at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos.
According to Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade,? the intervention of regional bodies has become imperative for a healthy and drug free life.
“The role of credible stakeholders such as regional organisations must be maximised. This is needed to boost drug control operations in the world particularly in Africa. Regional organisations can assist in developing legal frameworks and provide funding for drug control programmes. This way drug control capacity will be greatly enhanced in the continent,”he stated.
On the drug routes,? he said:? “Heroin is usually smuggled from Pakistan, Iran and India but things are changing with the seizure of heroin coming from Tanzania.
