The Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha has banned the open display and transportation of meat in the state. He handed down the directive after an unscheduled inspection of meat vans in Owerri.
Governor Okorocha said that the health of Imolites was a priority to the government and that all efforts would be taken to outlaw all unhealthy practices in the state.?
?“ The government will no longer tolerate a situation where meat? for human consumption are exposed to diseases and will henceforth seize and destroy such meat in the interest of the public”.
?Okorocha said his administration prefered preventive rather than curative health strategy and warned that all factors militating against the achievement of the objective would not be tolerated.
He assured that his administration’s construction and equipping of 27 general hospitals in all local governments in the state remained on course.
“There is no going back on our resolve to give Imo the best health care facility in the country through the health at your door step initiative,” he said.
