The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Rivers State has called for a probe into the N500 million allegedly paid to refuse contractors on monthly basis by the state government.
Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, had at a recent interactive session with journalists acknowledged that his administration pay the whopping sum to refuse contractors, yet parts of the state capital are filled with filth.
Publicity secretary of ACN in the state, Jerry Needam, who made the call in a chat with newsmen yesterday in Port Harcourt, also advised the people of the state not to take the issue for granted.
Needam expressed shock that such colossal sum is spent monthly on refuse contractor, yet most parts of Port Harcourt metropolis are littered with heaps of refuse that are not cleared.
He said: “We are shocked that such colossal sum is spent monthly on refuse contractors, yet everywhere in Port Harcourt metropolis is littered with dirt and heaps of un-cleared refuse.
“We wonder where and when the contractors are domiciled and do the job.”
