A former leading member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State who defected to the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) Alhaji Abubakar Sarki Dahiru, has adduced reasons for the flop of PDP in the State.
In chat with LEADERSHIP in Lafia, yesterday, he said that lack of sincerity and know-it-all posture of the former Governor, Aliyu Akwe Doma were the millstones that sank the PDP in the State.
Abubakar, a former Managing Director of Lower Benue River Basin Development Authority, expressed regret that lack of fair play in the PDP aggrieved many members leading to mutual distrust.
The party chieftain remarked that despite his closeness with the former governor, he proved not to be a good listener and did not listen to good advice let alone concede his position and interest for the greater good.
Citing an instance Abubakar maintained that in the build up to the general election, he advised Doma to ensure fair play in the primary election but he insisted on imposing his candidates on the delegates, a development which majority of party members were not happy with and showed their grievances during the election.
He added that losing such gladiators like Solomon Ewuga whose widespread acceptance at the grassroots compared to what Joseph Tarka was to the Tiv nation, dealt a heavy blow to the PDP.?
The Former PDP chieftain said that Doma preferred to impose Patricia Akwashiki on the electorate who herself won the senate seat on the popularity of Solomon Ewuga.
He also? said that despite the presence of a serving senator, deputy governor and a serving minister, Ewuga delivered the senatorial slot to the CPC and added that the PDP was not sincere with the electorate because right up to the election day the Specialist Hospital which is the only government owned hospital in the whole of Lafia metropolis was on strike in addition to all the tertiary institutions in the State.
Compounding PDP’s woes in the State, Abubakar said that with what the CPC led government of Tanko Almakura is doing in turning around the fortunes of the State, the PDP is as good as dead and buried.
