The Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) said in Lagos on Friday said that the components of the police helicopter which crashed in Jos recently would be taken abroad for laboratory tests.
AIB spokesman,? Mr Tunji Oketunbi, disclosed this to our corespondent.
He explained that the bureau had concluded plans to fly the recovered components abroad for laboratory tests, to ascertain the exact cause of the crash.
Oketunbi, however, did not disclose the country where the components would be flown to.
He said that the AIB had concluded arrangements to fly the recovered helicopter’s components abroad, including the flight data recorder, for further investigations.
Oketunbi assured Nigerians that the actual cause of the crash would be known through the tests.
The AIB spokesman said that the bureau’s investigators were still working on the preliminary report of the crash submitted to it, but declined to say when the report would be made public.
“Our investigators were immediately dispatched to the scene of the crash because it was registered as a civilian helicopter and not as a military chopper.
“We are still working on the preliminary report and we will provide more details on the crash as soon as it is made available by our investigators,” Oketunbi said.
The crash, which occurred on March 14 in the Plateau capital ,at about 11.30 a.m., claimed the lives of four officers of the Nigeria Police Force, including the DIG (Operations), Mr John Haruna.
Haruna's orderly, the helicopter pilot and the co-pilot were also killed.
