President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday described the death of First Republic Senator and Minister of Health, Dr. Moses Adekoyejo Majekodunmi,? as a great loss to the country.
The development came just as Lagos State Governor? Babatunde Fashola and his Oyo State counterpart,? Senator? Abiola Ajimobi paid tributes to the deceased.
According to Jonathan, “Majekodunmi’s wisdom, immense patriotism, dedication to work, commitment to national service and excellence will undoubtedly be sorely missed by his family, friends, associates and the whole country”.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, Jonathan? noted that “the late? Majekodunmi distinguished himself as a federal minister and Administrator of the? old Western Region, and one of the pioneers of high quality private health care services in Nigeria”.
Condoling with the wife of the deceased, Mrs. Katsina Majekodunmi, Fashola described the former administrator of Western Nigeria as an effective and far-sighted leader.
Fashola said although most Nigerians will remember the late Dr. Majekodunmi as a former administrator of the defunct Western Region, he chose to remember the late elder statesman as the effective and far-sighted Minister of Health in the First Republic under whose watch the establishment of the? first indigenous college of Medicine in Nigeria.
Governor Ajimobi expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the late former Deputy Governor of old Ondo State, Chief Akin Omoboriowo and the late? Majekodunmi, who both died in Lagos on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
The governor, in separate messages issued in Ibadan by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Festus Adedayo, said he received the news of the death of the two elder statesmen with shock and disbelief.
Acknowledging the immense contributions of the two eminent citizens to the emergence of modern Nigeria, Ajimobi said that they both put their God-given endowments at the disposal of their fatherland.
