The power sector unions, yesterday suspended plans to embark on strike, over what they term as the insensitivity of the government to the plight of its members.
The Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC), and National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) had earlier accused the Federal Government of failing to fully implement agreements entered with the unions among other issues.
The union had threatened to commence strike by Friday 13th April, 2012 if the issues raised are not addressed.
However, the prompt intervention of the Minister for Labour and productivity, Emeka Wogu, in a closed door meeting that lasted for about two hours put the strike on hold.
According to a source at the meeting, he said “we agreed to put the planned strike on hold so that all the issues raised would be properly addressed by a committee, chaired by Comrade Hassan Summonu on or before first week of May, 2012.
