Governor? Gabriel Suswam of Benue State has promised that his administration would pay more attention to the agriculture sector.
In a telephone interview with LEADERSHIP WEEKEND shortly after an award in the United States of America in recognition of his giant strides in agriculture, infrastructure, health and education by the Africa Leadership Magazine, Suswam said that Benue State would continue to improve in agriculture so as to maintain its name as the food basket of the nation.
The governor said his government would continue with its mission to uplift Benue to greater heights through the introduction of fiscal discipline in public expenditure, improved service delivery, building partnerships for development and sustainability in the use of exhaustible resources.
To ensure proper execution of the project, Suswam said his administration would identify a competent agricultural policy institution as a consultant to develop and produce the agricultural policy document for the state, which will provide a framework to relevant stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
“To ensure that the highest quality of product is delivered and to meet internationally accepted standards, the consultant is expected to work with the Benue State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Benue State Planning Commission, Benue State Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Benue State House of Assembly, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Farmers Organisations, the private sector, National Bureau of Statistics Donor agencies and development partners in the design and development of the agricultural policy document” he said.
