Following the current insecurity being experienced across the country, men of? the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) yesterday embarked on a 10km Route Match to check the alertness and prompt assembly of its personnel.
Over one thousand Air Officers and men participated in the exercise which took place at the Air Force Base Headquarters and was attended by Commanders, Officers and men of the seven units in Kaduna.
The units that participated include, the Headquarters Training Command (HQ TC), Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), 325 Ground Training Group (GTG), 335 Base Services Group, 333 Logistic Group, 345 Aero Medical Hospital and the Nigeria Air Force Institute of Safety.
In his remarks, the Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Training Command Kaduna, Air vice Marshal Alex Sabundu-Badeh assured that NAF will continue to keep the spirit of the service up and defend the sovereign integrity of Nigeria against any security threat.
He urged the Air Officers and men to live up to their calling, adding that Nigeria defends on the armed forces and other security agencies to protect them against security threats particularly that of the Boko Haram insurgency among other security challenges bedevilling the nation.
“Our quick and prompt assembly for the Route Match has shown that the NAF will perform creditably well if we are called upon to go out for any operation,” the AOC said.
The new AOC, while assuring of his determination to operate an open door policy, however, warned that, his command will not condone any act of grumbling and indiscipline by any officer and men of the command.
“This exercise is not a kind of a show of our physical fitness, but to be able to bring everybody together and do things together as a group.
“Certainly any exercise you do will enhance your physical fitness and since nobody fell by the road side during the exercise, it means that we have proved to be ready for any call to duty,” Air Vice Marshal Badeh stressed.
