Congress elections into the various offices at local government level of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] took place throughout the 21 local governments in Kebbi State yesterday.
At the congress election of Birnin Kebbi which took place at the premises of Birnin kebbi local government secretariat, all 18 candidates returned unopposed by the electing delegates which made the exercise devoid of wranglings.
Speaking to news men shortly after the election, the chairman of the Birnin Kebbi local government congress committee, Alh. Mohammed Labbo Kalgo described the election exercise as peaceful one. “You can see that the election was peaceful, all the accredited delegates cooperated with us and have abided by the law of our great party which resulted in the successful conduct and emergence of the 18 executive officials of Birnin Kebbi Local government.”
Earlier, the newly elected Birnin Kebbi local government PDP chairman who was unanimously returned unopposed. Alh. Tijjani Zauro expressed his happiness for the massive support he received from the delegates whom he said represented 15 wards of Birnin Kebbi local government.
“According to the new chairman, ‘the delegates put aside their differences and opted to vote for or rather retain us because of our credibility despite the initial misunderstanding which was amicably resolved.”
Result of the election made available to LEADERSHIP SUNDAY and signed by Muhammad Labbo Kalgo chairman of Birnin Kebbi local government congress committee indicated that Alh Tijjani Zauro emerged as the chairman with 17 others to man the various offices of the local government.The election was conduted before INEC officials and secutity personel.
In a similar development, the state public relations officer of PDP Alh Issah Assalafee has said that all the local government congresses in the 21 local governments of Kebbi state were conducted peacefully and in accordance wth laid down party rules.
