Nigeria’s men beach volleyball team has failed in their bid to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games, losing the African sole ticket to the South African team in the final phase of the continent’s qualifier held at Flic en Flac Beach, Mauritius on Sunday.
The South African beach volleyball team secured their qualification ticket to the London Games with a ground breaking victory over Angola in the final of the CAVB Continental Cup championship. With the victory, South Africa emerged the first country in the world to qualify for the prestigious event through the continental cup which had 39 African countries in attendance.???
Nigeria, whose preparation for the African Olympics qualifier was marred by controversy and protests by the players following threat by the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVF) to drop some key players over a media report, could only manage to finish third and would now represent Africa with second place Angola at the forthcoming World Cup Olympic Qualification tournament scheduled to hold between June 27 and July 1d in Tortoli, Italy.
