No fewer than 31 people died in different road accidents in Anambra between January and March, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC)? said on Wednesday.
The Anambra Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr Hyginus Omeje?? made the fact known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka but added that the figure was lower compared to 36? over the same period in 2011.
Omeje said? 49 motor accidents occurred during the period in different parts of the state.
He said that 136 persons were injured in the accidents out of whom? 28 persons sustained? serious injuries.
The commander blamed the accidents on over-speeding, reckless driving, overloading, drunk driving,? use of expired tyres and rickety vehicles, among others.
Omeje urged motorists and other road users to desist from violating traffic rules and regulations.
He said? the command would henceforth be very strict in the enforcement of the use of seat belts by motorists as well as the use of crash helmets by motorcyclists. (NAN)
