Gov. Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State has denied involvement in the fuel subsidy scam as reported in some national newspapers.
Dankwambo made the denial in Gombe on Thursday while assenting to the fiscal responsibility Law recently passed by the State House of Assembly.
“While I was coming out today, I read in the headlines (papers), they mentioned some few people, including my name that we were in the subsidy report.
?“Let me mention clearly that the Office of Accountant-General of the Federation does not pay subsidy.”
He said he had contacted the Office of the Accountant-General and clarified the information.
“Let me also mention clearly that when I heard the information, I quickly called the office of the Accountant-General and it was found out that the statement that was used was a statement of the PPPRA, that is Petroleum Products Pricing and Regulatory Agency, which the Accountant-General does not control.
?“The Accountant-General of the Federation only pays on-line payment from the source either from the Consolidated Revenue Account or the Excess Crude Account which is the source of payment into that account for the account to be monitored and to be paid by the PPPRA.”?? He said he demonstrated accountability and transparency when he was Accountant-General and that he would not commit fraud.
“So Gombe State people should be calm. I have been an Accountant-General since 1999.
“I have done my best to ensure that I demonstrate accountability, transparency in the way I operate. But you should not forget that Dankwambo today is also a politician.
“So there can be so many factors that will be added to ridicule Gombe State’s name.
?“But be clear in your mind; Dankwambo will never commit fraud.”?? On the fiscal responsibility law, the governor said the law was informed by the need to ensure transparency, accountability and prudence in the management of public funds.
He said with the assenting of the bill into the law, all Corporations, Agencies and government-owned companies were mandated to prepare and submit their statements of revenues and expenditure for the next three years.?
