The FCT Sector Command of the FRSC will on May 1, begin the enforcement of the ban on the covering of number plates, Mr Sunday Ajayi, the sector’s Head of Operation, has said.
Ajayi, who disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja, said the habit of covering number plate was becoming rampart in the FCT.
“It is an offence for motorists to cover their number plates; those who do so are violating traffic rule.
“As from May 1, the command will start arresting and prosecuting unauthorised motorists who engage in the act.”
Ajayi said that covering number plates was not only a violation of traffic rule, it also poses a security risk.
“Some criminally minded persons can hide under vehicles with covered number plates to perpetrate evil. It is a security risk and we will not condone it.”
He urged motorists to display their number plates to make it easier for security personnel to carry out their duties.?
