Nasarawa State Governor Alhaji Umaru Tanko Al-makura, has ordered contractors handling the over 35km road projects in Lafia township and Akwanga to ensure their completion before this year’s Democracy Day.
This order was conveyed to the contractors by the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Alhaji Musa Oma’aki Yusuf, while conducting newsmen round the project sites.
He stressed that? the government was worried that with the onset of rains, there might be delay in the schedule of completion of the projects and pointed out that the areas which have already been excavated would become marshy which might lead to public discontent on projects which hitherto they had expressed great joy over.
While inspecting the Construction of Agwai –Angwan Nungu 1.5km road project awarded to Triacta Nig. Ltd at the sum of N305, 397,385.02 the commissioner expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and urged the company to keep up the pace so as to deliver the work at the agreed time.
One challenge the company is facing, however, is the problem of drainage construction for the discharge of storm water.
While fielding questions from journalists, the project manager of Triacta Nig. Ltd, Mr. Auwal Sadiq, pointed out that they could not construct the drainages because government was yet to compensate those whose houses would be affected.
He noted that as soon as government paid the compensation, the company would demolish the affected structures to make way for smooth completion of the work.
