Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Agency (NERC), Dr. Sam Amadi, has linked the recent incidents of power outage across the country to the poor tariff system in the Nigerian Electricity Supply (NESI).
He maintained that the recent shortage in supply of gas to power plants across the country, which resulted in the blackout, was not due to shortage in gas stock but mostly on account of huge deficiency in the pricing regimes for gas which has affected further development of gas infrastructure to aid efficient gas delivery to power plants.
Speaking while addressing journalists in Abuja yesterday, Amadi noted that the inherent challenge in the sector remained poor tariff structure.
According to him, “The issue is as simple as we cannot pay for gas because the tariff is not good enough, the collection rate is very poor.”
