Osun State Muslim Community has cautioned that it would vehemently resist attempts by the opposition party to destabilize the state.
The community, apparently reacting to the allegation in security report written by the Department of State Security Service (DSSS) which accused Governor Rauf Aregbesola of secessionist plot and attempt to Islamise the state, warned the party to desist from campaign of calumny and politics of acrimony which it added was aimed at destroying the Governor’s personality and his religion.
The Muslim Community in a statement signed by its President and Assistant Secretary, Sheik Salaudeen Olayiwola and Alhaji Hashim Olapade respectively noted that the community will continue to identify with the progressive steps being taken ‘systematically’ by Governor Rauf Aregbesola and his government, adding that “as long as this administration remains God fearing, progressive and responsive to the yearnings of the good people of the state, we promise we shall continue to give it unalloyed loyalty and support”.
The Muslim leaders declared that “all these accusations constitute gross embarrassment to the Muslim Community and we appeal to all concerned to desist from this campaign of calumny and politics of acrimony aimed at destroying the Governor of the State and disparage his religion which happened to be the religion of the vast majority of the people of this young state.
How on earth could any person with his faculties performing normally harbor a thought that a state in this time in the history of Nigeria is planning to secede? Which a security set-up that worth’s its name can accept this assertion hook line and sinker?”
They further said,“The Muslim Community would have kept silent on the PDP assertion because we are not a political party but because we cannot keep our hands in limbo when the peace and harmony, progress and development being enjoyed since the coming on board of Aregbesola administration within a short period was being threatened by some reckless outburst of some enemies of progress.
This statement credited to South West PDP Zonal Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kayode Babade is to say the least a product of gross mental derailment. How could a citizen of this young state wake up and try to set the state on fire!”
