Military police from the 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, have arrested a 29-year-old man, Andrew Atusi for allegedly parading himself as a serving soldier.
Officer-in-charge of the military police in the Brigade, Captain Sunny Samuel told newsmen in Port Harcourt that Atusi was arrested following a tip-off, while a further search on him led to the recovery of a fake Nigerian Army identity card with his photograph as well as several other military wears.
Samuel said: “On the 9th of March this year, I led a team of military police following a tip-off from our sources to the house of Andrew Atusi. He lives in No. 5 Kelvin Street, off Pipeline in Romoudomaya, Port Harcourt.
“Andrew Atusi has been parading himself as a serving soldier. After the arrest, a search was carried out in his house, where army property were recovered as well as four vehicles that were suspected to be stolen.
“Andrew Atusi has never been in the army, neither was he dismissed as he earlier claimed at the point of arrest. He only impersonates using the military identity card to aid his nefarious activities and his claim to be a car dealer could not be established.”
He explained that the items recovered from the suspect, who hails from Edo state and a father of two were: two army baseball caps, two army T- shirts, one army three quarter trouser,? fake army identity card, among others.
