Finally some good news for Giuliana and Bill Rancic: they're expecting!
The couple, who married in 2007, will be first-time parents this summer via a gestational surrogate who is carrying the couple's biological child. “We are so thrilled that our prayers have been answered,” the E! News host and her businessman husband said in a statement to her network. “We are absolutely ecstatic to be sharing this with everyone who has been following our journey.”
And what a journey it has been! The Rancics have been sharing their difficult struggle to conceive on their Style Network reality series “Giuliana & Bill” since it debuted in 2009. After enduring many rounds of IVF and suffering a miscarriage in 2010, Giuliana was dealt another devastating blow in 2011 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent a double mastectomy last fall.
Giuliana and Bill celebrated their good news on the “Today” show this morning. “It was pretty much, one of the best moments of my life, if not the best moment of my life,” she said of learning that one of the embryos they banked prior to her cancer diagnosis had resulted in a pregnancy. “It was just another world, on another level.”
“This was our last stop,” Bill added. “This was it. We had those two embryos that we had banked prior to learning about the breast cancer, and with the medicine she was on (which meant Giuliana will have to wait years before trying to personally get pregnant), this was our last effort. The prayers were answered.”
The couple was introduced to their gestational carrier — which Giuliana joking called “my baby mama” — by the TV host's Colorado-based fertility doctor. “She's a dream come true,” said Giuliana. “We go visit her, we see the baby growing and it's very exciting.”
Giuliana and Bill have already found out the gender of their child, but they're keeping it a secret — along with any name selections. But we'll find out soon enough as the baby is due at the end of the summer.
