Forty four inmates of the Bauchi Central Prison were on Wednesday granted amnesty by the Bauchi State Government.
Mr Al-Mustapha Hassan, Bauchi Commissioner for Justice, disclosed this to newsmen in Bauchi at the end of visits to the prison.
He said that the beneficiaries included those who were unable to pay the fine imposed on them by the law courts, while some were released based on good conduct.
The commissioner advised the beneficiaries to continue to exhibit good behaviour as they did in the prison, so as to effectively blend into the larger society.
Hassan said that this would serve as a lever for the government to further carry out more of such exercise in the near future.
He pledged that the government would continue to look into the cases of the ex convicts in order to fully reintegrate them into the society.
Alhaji Abubakar Garba, the Controller, Bauchi Prison Command, commended the government's gesture of rehabilitating prisoners and reabsorbing some of them back into the society.
He urged the beneficiaries to continue to be good citizens and abhor any act that would tarnish their image and that of the state.
