Alhaji Sa’ád Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, says he will only identify with and support any government that cares for the people.
Abubakar made the statement when he paid a courtesy call on Gov.? Sule Lamido of Jigawa? in Dutse on Wednesday.
“Any government that has concern for the welfare of the common man, the down-trodden, will receive my support.
“What we the traditional rulers want is care and concern for the poor,” he said.
The sultan said he was in Dutse to inaugurate the guest houses built by the Jigawa Government for the five emirs in the state.
He also said he came to rejoice with the people on the development strides recorded by the Sule Lamido administration in the last five years.
He lauded the government for the achievements and also commended the governor’s cordial relationship with the traditional rulers.
Lamido said traditional rulers had important roles to play for the achievement of good governance.
He said traditional institutions, religious leaders and politicians must unite to address issues of development.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that, at least, 30 emirs accompanied the sultan on the visit. (NAN)
