The Development Control Department of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) yesterday demolished a substandard four storey building on Plot 21 Ndjamena Crescent, beside Dennis Hotel, Wuse 2.
In a chat with journalists, the Director of the department, Yahaya Yusuf said that the building was pulled down because it failed the stability/integrity test.
He said, “The developer of this property built without approval and in the course of processing the approval, it failed the Schmidt hammer test and the stability test.”
Yusuf stated that the site officers spotted the building while it was under construction in 2009 and served the developer notices to stop work which he failed to respect.
“The demolition took this long because the developer failed to heed our numerous notices, he rebuffed our notices. On completion and during the course of securing approval it failed the test and he ran to court.”
He said the court gave a directive that the house should be pulled down for safety reasons last week.
