Less than two hours after the explosion that rocked the offices of Thisday, the Sun and the Moment newspapers, another improvised explosive device (IED) suspected to be bomb exploded along Nnamdi Azikiwe expressway near the second Kaduna Bridge, injuring at least four people.
The explosion, according to witnesses, occurred at about 6:40pm when a suspected suicide bomber drove out of his house apparently to plant bombs in an unknown place, but the bomb exploded in the process.
The Police command which confirmed the blast said no life was lost from the explosion and that it was a small blast with no heavy effect.
An eyewitness said the explosion took place around Chellco after Nassarawa bridge, and that four people were injured including the bombers who were on a bike.
“The explosion happened in my presence,” one of the witnesses said. “I was just coming out of Ungwan Muazu when I heard the sound behind me. When I turned back and saw people running, I moved towards the place and discovered that it was a bomb explosion and that it had injured the people carrying the bomb.”
Meanwhile, Kaduna State Police Commissioner Mohammed Jinjiri Abubakar, in a press briefing shortly after the bomb blast, confirmed that three persons died with 25 others injured and receiving treatment in various hospitals.
He described the those who died while trying to save their father land as patriots and recommended that the state government adequately compensate their families.
According to the commissioner, those that died are Bashir, Tela and yet to be identified ‘okada rider’.
“They died while struggling to keep the actual suspect for further investigation” he said, and confirmed that the actual suspect was under police custody.
“The suspect would have been lynched if not for the effort of those who lost their lives and the timely intervention of the police,” he said.?
