Civil Society Coalition of Nigeria has faulted the recent attack by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola even as it described it as an attempt to weaken his government before the next general election.
The National Coordinator of the Coalition, Comrade Yunusa Mohammed, said this at a press conference held in Abuja and stressed that Osun State has witnessed good governance and accountability since the coming of Aregbesola.
He attributed the unfriendly disposition of the opposition to the fact that they could not stand the giant strides been recorded in the state hence the plan to cause confusion.
“This is the root of all these unsubstantiated allegations and we want to categorically state that the PDP has failed and they will be disgraced.
Where was the opposition when on assumption of office he rebranded the State by introducing a state anthem and logo? What is bad in rebranding, after all in developed democratic federal practicing countries of the world particularly the United States of America, which Nigeria copied their system, states used to be independent in federating units,” he said.
Civil Society Coalition of Nigeria added that it was a shame for the opposition in the South West to be tackling the Governor of Osun State when they could have offered an advice to Mr. President on how to address the problem of insecurity in the country.
Speaking further, he said, “Osun State is being targeted in the scheme of desperation by an opposition hell bent on causing chaos in the entire South West region considering the uninspiring performances of its governors while in office.
“The creators and originators of this mudslinging and campaign of calumny believe that unless the PDP destabilises the South West and gets rid of Governor Aregbesola who they see as their stumbling block in 2015, there will be no peace.”?
