The Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has spoken of the need for agriculture to form the backbone of the nation’s economy as was the case before the discovery of oil in Nigeria.
The royal father spoke when he received a delegation on the Fadama 111 project and a team of visiting delegation from The Gambia in his palace He maintained that agriculture was very important for the revival of the nation’s economy.
According to him, since the commencement of the Fadama programme, there had been a tremendous achievement in rural agriculture.
He said the difference between the Fadama programme and other agricultural programmes in the country was that Fadama is continuous and had been sustained since it was introduced in Nigeria.
The Etsu Nupe stated that with the sustainability of Fadama, the opportunity could be used to transform the nation’s agricultural sector through empowering the people at the grassroots level.
Abubakar said his domain had agricultural potentials to produce what would meet the food need of the nation, and for export.
Also speaking, leader of the delegation from The Gambia, Ebrahim Cham, said they? were in Nigeria to understudy the World Bank Fadama-assisted programme because of its success story in? Nigeria.
