Enugu Rangers FC have urged the leadership of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) to cancel the result of week 22 league match between them and the Wikki Tourists of Bauchi at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Staduim, Bauchi, saying the host’s fans flared up and foment violence while match was going on.
Rangers said that the match was marred with the incidence of fans unruly behaviour that resulted in distracting the referee, attacks on their technical adviser, Innocent Obiekwo, camera man, Eddy Agubuzu and damaging his camera.
Rangers Media Officer, Foster Chime, who stated this to EADERSHIP SPORTS, said the violent behaviour of Tourists fans predisposed referee to disallow Tourists goal, but turned out to award Tourists an undeserving penalty at the last minute following the threatened by to hurt him.
According to Chime, his side would have secured an outright victory over Tourists in the match but was eventually robbed by the referee because of fans violence, which gave Tourists a 1-1 draw against Rangers.
However, Tourists media officer, Usman Shehu, denied any violence act by their fans at the match venue, saying that it was a false report. Shehu said their fans reacted when the referee denied Tourists an outright goal but did not culminate in any violence.
Meanwhile, Rangers 1-1 draw against Tourists given leader Kano Pillars n edge in the league. Pillars on Wednesday beat Rising Stars 2-1, to open two points lead ahead of Rangers and Dolphins on the league table.
