Suspected armed robbers on Sunday shot dead three policemen in Mararrabar Maigora Village in Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The Public Relations Officer of the Katsina State Police Command, ASP. Shehu Koko, confirmed the development in Katsina on Sunday.
The Police Spokesman, who did not give the names of the victims, however, named them as “a police inspector, a sergeant and a corporal”.
He said that the three police men were ambushed by the robbers in the early hours of Sunday while on patrol.
“The attackers on sighting the police patrol van, opened fire on the vehicle resulting in the death of the three policemen on the spot and setting their vehicle on fire,” he said.
Koko said: “one of the bullets fired at the vehicle hit its fuel tank, and as a result the van went on flame.”
He noted, however, that the police command was able to recover the bodies of the three policemen.
He said: “no arrest has so far been made but a team of policemen has been dispatched to the area to fishing out the suspects.
“The effort is also meant to assist in maintaining peace and security in the area. (NAN)
