At least one person has been confirmed dead and four houses burnt when gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen invaded Gwam Rim Village of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.??
LEADERSHIP gathered that the gunmen stormed the village at about 12.30 am yesterday and started shooting sporadically.
Mark? Lidpo, coordinator of a Christian based non governmental organisation, Stefanos foundation? gave the name of the deceased as??? David? Mamai.
?LEADERSHIP recalls? that? last? Tuesday? two? families? were? attacked in? the same?? village?? and? five? Persons? were? killed with? two? hospitalised.
Hon. Daniel Dem, member representing Riyom state constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly described the re-occurrence of the ugly incident as unfortunate and said that it was very unfair for people to be attacked and killed in their sleep.?
According to him, it is not the first time this kind of incident? is occurring and,? “my people have been pushed to the wall” .
He pointed out that? one person was shot dead and four houses razed by the assailants, “ I want to appeal to my people to remain calm and not to take laws into their hands”.?
Meanwhile the Special Adviser to the Plateau State Governor, Timothy Parlong has said that Governor Jonah Jang was doing everything possible to ensure that peace returns? to the locality.? He disclosed that already the state government had started holding talks between the? Beroms and the Fulani herdsmen to foster peaceful relationship between both? communities.
