National leader of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu yesterday called on the Federal Government to seek consultations on the insecurity problem in the country, even as he denied having had any meeting at the weekend with President Goodluck Jonathan.
The clarification from the ACN leader came amid speculations that there was a meeting between him and the president when the latter visited Lagos.
Tinubu said, he would be favoraurably disposed to meeting with the president to contribute his views on how to settle insecurity problems in the country if called to do so, as long as such a meeting would not be politicised.
The ACN leader added that as much as any of such meetings called at the instance of the president was convoked without politicising issues, it would be good for all stakeholders in the Nigerian project to put their heads together to find a common solution to the problems limiting the growth and stability of the nation.
Tinubu who spoke with journalists at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos after returning from a visit to Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, over the recent road accident involving his convoy, was accompanied by the national chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande; former Ekiti State governor, Niyi Adebayo and ACN spokesman, Lai Mohammed.
According to Tinubu: “That report is not correct. To tell you categorically, I did not attend any meeting with the president in company of Oba of Lagos. I wasn’t even aware that the president was coming to Lagos until after the visit of the Oba at night. So there was no meeting between myself, the president and the Oba of Lagos. I am very sure that the governor did not attend any such meeting.”
On his disposition to any meeting if invited by Jonathan, Tinubu said: “We have all been meeting on national issues, we had the meetings several times in the past, so when the party leadership across the board are all invited to a meeting to solve the problems of the country why not.
“This is? a critical time when all hands must be on deck to help solve the security? problems? of the country, this is the time to get together to develop ideas, and all necessary reasons that can help the nation as a whole. The matter of security should be less politicised, advice should be solicited for in good faith. If ideas are solicited for in good faith, one must offer it. They should not reject the ideas of any person out right, but that has to come through the political parties’ leadership.”
