A 35-year-old businessman, Alex Okemen, was on Tuesday arraigned at an Oshodi Magistrates' Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing N3.1 million.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Olatunde Kehinde, told the court that Okemen obtained the amount from Mic-Oscar Company Nigeria Ltd., at 14A, Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Lagos, under pretence.
According to Kehinde, the accused collected the money with the pretext of supplying diesel to the company’s ship?on the high sea.
He said that the offence, which was committed between January and February 2012, contravened Section 312 of Criminal Code of Lagos State, 2011.
The prosecutor added that Okemen also stole by converting the money to his personal use without supplying the diesel, thereby contravening Section 278 of Criminal Code of Lagos State, 2011.
However, Okemen, who is standing trial on a two count charge of false representation and theft, pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate Osho Adebiyi granted him bail in the sum of N700,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case till May 17 for further hearing. (NAN)
