Fracas broke out between two factions of motor park touts, popularly known as ‘agbero’ yesterday at Ikorodu end of Lagos, leaving many injured and a man killed.
The fight which started on Tuesday at Agric bus stop around 7pm was caused by a disagreement over the fees usually collected by the touts on behalf of the road transport workers.
The refusal of a tricycle operator known as ‘Keke Marwa’ to pay the stipulated amount may have caused the fight, as the touts and colleagues of the rider, brandishing machetes and cutlasses freely used same on one another, sustaining severe injuries in the process.
When LEADERSHIP got to the scene on Wednesday morning, there was apprehension as a police vehicle was stationed at the bus stop and about ten armed policemen on hand to prevent a reprisal attack by the aggrieved faction.
Our correspondent gathered that about three persons were actually killed and scores critically injured as a result of the clash.
Many shops around the scene were also either vandalised or looted because when the fight ensued, commuters took to their heels in fear and as a result, some sustained injuries.
One of the touts known as ‘Yellow’ was said to have been critically injured and still battling to stay alive.??
Police sources however revealed that only a man had been declared dead as others involved in the clash were critically injured.
However men of the Ikorodu police station led by one Mr. Vincent under the leadership of the DPO, Mr. Onoja (CSP) were able to put the fracas under control yesterday.
Lagos Police spokesman, Joseph Jaiyeoba was not able to confirm the number of casualties in the fracas when a telephone call put to him did not go through.?
