Oshiomhole Gives Police 14 Days To Produce Killers Of Aids

Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo has asked the police command in the state to unmask the killers of Mr Oyerinde Olaitan his principal private secretary, who was allegedly murdered earlier in the day.

The police are also expected to use the period to establish the facts about the auto crash that claimed the lives of three journalists in the governor’s entourage at Afuze last Saturday.

A truck careered off its lane on the highway last Saturday, ramming into the governor’s motorcade at Etsako local government area of the state and killed three journalists on the spot.

Oshiomhole himself escaped death by whiskers as the truck missed the vehicle which the governor was driving.

The Edo governor had earlier opted to drive himself in a small car rather than using his official Sports Utility Vehicle on the day the truck rammed into his motorcade.

Oshiomhole challenged the police over the need to unmask those behind the alleged murder of his aide on Friday in Benin while addressing party faithful after a peaceful protest round major streets of the state capital.

The governor said: “We are giving the police 14 days to unravel the killers of Olaitan and the mystery behind the auto crash that killed the young men (journalists).

“If they do not do that, as the Chief security officer of this state, I will use all my reserve options.

“Nobody can intimidate me, When I was not in power I was not intimidated.

“I urge you all to go back home and not to take laws into your hands. Resist the temptation to fight them (assailants) today. We are giving the police 14 days from today.

“They (the police) must produce those killers; they (victims) will not die in vain. Go back peacefully.

“If the police do not do proper investigation on the killing of those journalists and Olaitan, as the governor of the state, I will consult the leadership of my party to find solution to the security problem.’’

He added: “every week, they create a situation where we will have to postpone our rally. The best tribute we can give to Olaitan is not to give up, it is not to surrender. We have already conquered them.

“There is no going back; they have killed my sons; they have killed my brother; they have killed my people, but they cannot kill my spirit.’’

The governor alleged that some `desperate’ politicians were bringing violence to the state in the name of politics.

He also alleged that “those who plotted the killing of the journalists are busy paying condolence visits; it is? not how long I live that matters, but what I should be remembered for, we will fight and not give up.’’
