Akwa Ibom State, Governor Godswill Akpabio, has urged Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to serve as an advocacy group of good governance rather than an agency that fights corruption.
Akpabio, who gave the task yesterday during the official opening of a three-day retreat on ‘’Repositioning the ICPC As Foremost Agency in the Anti-corruption Crusade,’’ at Ibom Le Meridien Hotels and Golf Resort, Nwaniba, Uyo, said the agency should be seen as an agency that praises good work when it is necessary’’.
The governor described corruption in Nigeria as a cancerous thing that needs a surgical operation, saying ‘’Let ICPC be angry. In order to effect a change, there must be positive anger. If you are not angry, you cannot change the situation. Don’t be complacent. It is positive anger that changed the face of Akwa Ibom.
‘’In order for ICPC to achieve its goals, there has to be proper monitoring. ICPC should monitor the monitors as this has helped in the achievement of the goals of the new Akwa Ibom State’’, he stated.
