The National Environmental Standards and Regulatory Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has expressed its determination to implement environmental laws.
?The agency stated this in a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday by Mr Sule Oyofo, the agency’s public relations officer.
It quoted Dr Ngeri Benebo, the director general of the agency, as saying that implementation of the laws would ensure safety environment for all Nigerians.
Benebo promised that with the presidential directives on full implementation of environmental laws, the agency would ensure that the health standards of Nigerians were not compromised.
?She noted that efforts made by the agency led to the lifting of the trade ban imposed on Nigeria in 2005 by Convention on International Trade on Endangered Species.
The director general, who called on the public to report cases of violation of environmental regulations to NESREA offices, gave the assurance that the agency would ensure speedy response to such cases.
Benebo noted that the agency has the mandate to protect the Nigerian environment. ?
