Efforts at settling the inter-communal clash between Oko-Anala and Oko-Amakon in Oshimili South Local Government Area, Delta State, suffered a setback mid-week as police arraigned three for murder before an Asaba Senior Magistrate Court.
The communal clash which was caused by the harvest of fish from a communal pond claimed the life of one Ikechukwu? Nwanmuo of Oko-Amakon.
Following the tension generated by the killing. The traditional ruler, HRH Ossy Onwuka, the Akor of Oko, intervened and reportedly convened a peace meeting.
It could not be confirmed whether a resolution has been reached, but on Thursday, the police charged the accused persons to court for murder.
Those charged were Chief NWAFILI Anyaka, 50, Obiorah Nwadingbu, 62 and Anene Anyaka, 40.
The Prosecutor in a four-counted charge accused the men of conspiracy and engaging in war with the native of Oko-Amakon.
They were also accused of the murder of Ikechukwu Nwanmuo by shooting him with a gun.
The trial senior Magistrate, F.P. kekeje, remanded the accused persons in prison custody and directed that the case file should be duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) while the case was adjourned to May 31, 2012 for mention.
