About 10 wives of governors from different states in the country, yesterday, attended the thanksgiving service in honour of the wife of Benue State governor, Mrs Yemisi Suswam at the Redeemed Christian Church Of God, Makurdi.
Though First Lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan, was expected to attend the service as part of activities during her two-day visit to the state, Governor Gabriel Suswam told the congregation that the First Lady had informed him that she had an urgent official assignment elsewhere.
According to him, Mrs. Jonathan was scheduled to arrive the Makurdi Airport at 12 noon, when the thanksgiving service would have been over.
At the service which attracted a large congregation of worshippers had in attendance Mrs. Suswam and her husband, Governor Suswam, who were accompanied by the chairman of the occasion and Director General of the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Dr. Paul Orhii, Minister of state for Trade and Investment, Chief Samuel Ortom.
In her speech, Mrs. Suswam said that she and her husband were thanking God for first; political victory;? second, her emergence as chairperson of Northern Governors Wives Forum and third; to mark her 45th birthday on April 30.
LEADERSHIP recalled that Mrs. Suswam had donated a 500-seat capacity church auditorium as well as a sports complex to Anyiin, her husband’s community in Logo Local Government Area of the state.
In his sermon, Pastor Mike Ayanbode encouraged Christians to always give thanks to God and said that there was bountiful harvest in the spirit of giving thanks.
He prayed that the difficulties faced by the Benue first family would disappear and that Gods’ blessing would fill them.
