The Deputy Director, Public Relations, State Security Service (SSS), Mrs Marilyn Ogar, said in Abuja on Wednesday that Nigerian women can end the security challenges in parts of the country.
Ogar made this known at a conference titled “Role of Women in Economic Development and National Transformation organised by the Society of Women in Taxation.
“In the security circle, we believe that it is women that can bring an end to the security challenges, because women sleep and wake up with their husband, they are closer to their children and should know what they do. ’’
Ogar said as far as she was concerned, there was nothing like Boko Haram, adding that it was the fallout of the activities of the unemployment in the country.
She said that the issue of gender played a role in conflict resolution as women understood how to manage conflict; hence they should be engage in such.
According to her, the security challenges in some parts of the country are multi facet, as there are challenges ranging from unemployment and joblessness.
She urged women to rise to the occasion of curtailing the crisis in the country, adding that they should stand up to participate in the decision making.
Earlier, Dr Sally Bolujoko, former President, Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM), said women were the best managers of organisation as they managed the home, family among others.
She challenged women to vie for traditional roles, adding that women had proven their mettle in so many spheres.
Bolujoko urged women not to limit themselves to the traditional role of cooking, looking after the children but should begin to play a global role.
“Our present role is quite different from what it was in the past, we should be working toward role integration and qualification,’’ she said.
She called on women to desist from keeping house helps and making them to do all the house chores without sending them to school for improvement.
Mrs Moji Makanjuola, a journalist with the Nigerian Television Authority, said Nigerian women had a role to play on the issue of development.
She called on women to be ready to take up challenges just like the men in building a better society.
