A bomb said to be directed at a police surveillance vehicle in Jalingo, Taraba State has exploded. This is coming fifteen hours to the local government election scheduled for Saturday in the state.
The bombers threw the explosive at the van as it made its way out of the Jalingo police division.
“The police Hillux was so fortunate to have gone past the Bagco bag before the explosive inside the bag exploded,” an eye witness who owns a shop close to the scene told our correspondent.
“There were two of them on a motorcycle called and immediately they over took the police van, they drop the bag. We thought something mistakenly fell off the bike and called out to them but they rather increased their speed and before we knew it, there was heavy explosion which shook the whole of this place,” an iron bender also explained to our correspondent.
Meanwhile the explosion has sent fears in minds of the electorates who intended traveling to their various areas to cast their votes “as the security which is the protector of lives and property is been targeted”.
Reacting to the development the police public relation officer Ibbiang Mbasike urged the electorates to consider the development as a threat on the masses by those who are planning to rig the local government elections in the state.
He said the police are aware of the threat and have deployed officers from the laboring states of Adamawa and Benue in order to curtail such occurrences.
