Sports administrators, football aficionados and politicians converged on Ira, Oyun local government area of Kwara state for the fidau prayer of the late Super Eagles’ goal merchant, Rashidi Yekini.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, the speaker of the Kwara state House of Assembly, Razak Atunwa, NFF Vice president, Mike Umeh and former secretary-general of the then Nigeria Football Association (NFA), Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi were some of the dignitaries at the event.?
Others included the Kwara state commissioners for Information and Communications and Youth and Sports, Prince Tunji Moronfoye and Kayode Towoju.
In his sermon, the Chief Imam of Offa, Alhaji Muideen Husseni said the death of the ace footballer was colossal loss not only to the Kwara community but Nigeria and Africa as a whole.
The Islamic cleric berated government for not taking care of its heroes while alive, saying at their death government will now roll out drums to celebrate them.
