The police in Ebonyi State is currently investigating the gruesome murder of a 23- year-old girl, Chinagorom Lucy Agama, a first year student of Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo.
The deceased, who hails from Okposhi-Eheku community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area was declared missing on April 25 and her decaying body was discovered in the bush around her community on May 2, 2012.
It was also a double tragedy for the deceased’s family as the sick mother died on? hearing the news of the disappearance of her daughter even before the corpse was found.
The discovery of the gory remains was reported to the police at Ezzamgbo who came with a doctor to discover that one of Chinagorom’s breasts had been cut off and her long curly hair unevenly shaved, with some machete cuts on her head.
The autopsy report also revealed she was five months old pregnant, lending credence to the speculation that the deceased must have been murdered when she rejected a second abortion, having been allegedly previously committed an abortion earlier for her fiancé.
The family of the deceased is equally suspicious of ritual motives due to the missing breast and some hairs.
Ebonyi State Police Public Relations officer (PPRO), John Ukie Eluu, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) confirmed the incident when contacted, adding that the matter was reported to the Divisional Police station in Ohaukwu about the missing girl.
He said that the body was discovered in a decomposing state. According to him, some arrests have been made in connection with the grisly murder.
Sources from the community revealed that the fiancé to the deceased simply identified as Chudi was allegedly responsible for the death, and had been arrested along with his father.
Chudi, it was reported, had been in a 13-year-long courtship with the deceased even as every effort was made to stop the relationship by both families proved unsuccessful.
“In 2005, Chinagorom had an abortion courtesy of the would-be husband and when he was confronted, he flared up in anger but when we flared back, he admitted and pleaded for forgiveness,” a source from the deceased’s family revealed.
Chinagorom had reportedly left her house for school on April 20, but unknown to her family members, she stopped at her fiancé’s house only for her fiancé to turn up on April 25 to claim that she was missing and that he only saw her last on April 22.
But when witnesses testified that they saw two of them on April 25, the fiancé maintained his innocence of not knowing her whereabouts. It was at that point that the matter was reported to the police.
