The Senate yesterday mandated the Nigeria Communication Commission(NCC) to recover over N1.17billion fine imposed on MTN, Etisalat ,Airtel and Globacom for? poor service delivery.
Nonetheless, NCC demanded N2billion to enable it monitor quality of service of the GSM providers within this year alone.
The commission had proposed a budget of N48.8billion for the 2012 fiscal year.
MTN and Etisalat are expected to pay a fine of N360million each for poor quality service while Airtel and Globacom are to pay N270million and N180 million respectively.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Communication Senator Gilbert Nnaji at a budget defence meeting yesterday with NCC expressed worry over the long delay in the collection of the N1.1billion fine.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chairman of NCC, Mr Eugene Juwa has insisted that the sanction remains. He told the senate committee on communication that the commission was now in position to commence the recovery of the fine.
