Speaking at the occasion, the chairman of the council, Peter Ushafa who was represented by the vice chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Matalawi noted that the radio was an effective medium to pass information to people down to grassroots due to its affordability.
?“As you are aware, radio is a very effective medium in reaching out to the people in every part of the country because of its affordability and portability. As such, the use of radio for mass literacy is a welcome development especially to people at the grassroots,” he said.
He urged the agency to make proper use of the materials presented and pledged the council’s commitment to supporting issues pertaining to literacy programmes in the area, stressing the federal government’s readiness towards the reduction of illiteracy among Nigerians.
The council boss called on well meaning Nigerians, corporate bodies and other stakeholders to assist the agency with more material in order to achieve the desired goal as government cannot do it alone.
